Marlys Joanne (Thoen) Johnson

Born February 3, 1931 in Fargo, ND to Glennis & Luella (Sorbel) Thoen, died peacefully of natural causes on April 2, 2021. Marlys was a 1948 graduate of Kindred High School, and received her teaching certificate from Valley City State Teacher's College with honors in 1952. She then began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Grand Forks, ND. Three decades later, she obtained her bachelor's degree in College Studies in August of 1980 from Valley City State College.

In April of 1954, Marlys married Eugene C. Johnson. The couple moved to Minneapolis in 1955. They welcomed their son David in 1956 and daughter Debra in 1958. Marlys continued to reside in Minneapolis until her passing. Marlys substitute taught until her children were school age, and then began working for FluiDyne Engineering Corporation as their technical & research librarian. Marlys retired in 1996.

Marlys will be remembered for her love of family, books, embroidery, and volunteering at her church library. Marlys was proud of her role in the Fort Snelling Honor Guard.

Marlys was preceded in death by parents; brother, Dennis Thoen. She is survived by sister, Norma (Wesley) Megrund; son, David Johnson; daughter, Debra (Dwight) Jennings; 6 grandchildren & 16 great-grandchildren. Marlys has been cremated and will be interred at Norman Cemetery at the Norman Lutheran Church in Kindred, ND on May 29, 2021.
