Marilyn Shippy Sorenson

life story

Marilyn Shippy Sorenson (82) passed away on November 4th, 2022 in her home surrounded by her husband and four children. Marilyn was born on May 2nd, 1940 to her parents, the late Wayne and Eileen Shippy, in Marble Township, Minnesota. She grew up alongside her four brothers on the family farm.

Marilyn graduated high school from Canby High School in 1958. After graduation she moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where she met her husband of 62 years, Dennis Sorenson. Dennis and Marilyn married on October 1st,1960 at Marble Lutheran Church in Canby, Minnesota. Dennis and Marilyn had four children together.

Marilyn was well-traveled throughout her lifetime and lived in many different places all over the country including Minnesota, Georgia, California, and Florida. She made many friends throughout these states and would hold onto some of these friendships for the entirety of her life.

Marilyn lived a fulfilling life and in her spare time enjoyed playing card games, board games, traveling, sewing, baking, and surrounding herself with her loved ones. She was an amazing grandmother and great-grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Dennis Sorenson, and her four children: Jon Sorenson of Marshall, MN; Randy (Lisa) Sorenson of Kissimmee, FL; Ann Johnson of Valdosta, GA; and Beth (Brice) Schneider of LaMesa, CA. In addition to her children she is survived by her four grandchildren: Blake, Tyler, Madalyn and Marlee; her two great-grandchildren: Asher and Devin Anna as well as her four brothers: Don (Terry) Shippy, Dennis (Kathy) Shippy, Dale (Rosemary) Shippy, Daryl (Judy) Shippy, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Eileen.

A memorial service for Marilyn will be held at a later date in Canby, Minnesota.
