life story

A Loving Mother and Grandmother

Marilyn Marie Andler passed away on April 20, 2021 due to COVID-19. She leaves behind a grieving family who will sorely miss her ever-present smile, her generous spirit and lighthearted attitude. Marilyn brought happiness to all she encountered. Born to Leo and Helen Koehnen, she grew up in St. Paul, MN. After graduating from Monroe High School she married Larry Allen “Pete” Andler. They raised three children together with love, laughter and tenderness. The family enjoyed regular camping trips to the North Woods; a legacy that continues today. Marilyn served her community as a member of the kitchen staff for South Washington County ISD 833 for more than 25 years. Her work was an expression of her joy. Cooking and baking were among her gifts in this life. Holiday parties and special events were enjoyed by all when hosted by Marilyn. Not satisfied with retirement she joined her sister, Maureen, as treasured staff members at her son’s clothing store, Heimie’s, in downtown St. Paul. For many years Marilyn worked daily with her son and her sister always with a twinkle in her eye and a song in her heart. She had a great sense of humor and delighted in making others laugh.

Marilyn is survived by her husband Larry Andler, her sister Maureen Schultz, her daughters Deborah Gustafson and Bonnie Andler, her son Anthony Andler, sons-in-law Randy Gustafson and David Woods, daughter-in-law Christine Gendreau, and beloved grandchildren Joshua, Jacob and Natalia Gustafson and Olivia Andler, along with Taylor Kriz, friend of the family. Marilyn was especially proud of her children’s accomplishments and the burgeoning talents of her grandchildren. Special thanks to Maureen and Jeannie Schultz, Deb and Randy and Bonnie and Dave for their loving support and care throughout the years.

She is preceded in death by her parents Leo and Helen Koehnen, brother Jack Koehnen, sisters Margaret Hazzard and Marleen Palumbo.

Due to continuing concerns surrounding COVID-19 we ask that you celebrate Marilyn’s life from the safety of your home.
