Marilyn Louise Whitehead (Lund)

August 31, 1926 – June 28, 2025

Bloomington, MN, USA

Marilyn Whitehead, age 98, of Bloomington, died peacefully June 28, 2025 at Breck Homes in Bloomington.

She was born in Detroit to Milton and Clara Lund, and grew up in North Minneapolis. She married Ken Whitehead in 1945. They were happily married for 66 years until his death in 2012, and together they had 4 children. They lived in Richfield MN as well as Arlington Heights, IL, before retiring to their cabin in Crosslake, MN. Many wonderful times were had in Crosslake. Marilyn happily welcomed and hosted family and friends while they enjoyed the boats and water, and she was always excited to share her love and knowledge of the local birds and wildlife.

Throughout her life, Marilyn was involved in her church communities, especially Crosslake Presbyterian. She enjoyed crafts and games of all kinds and could often be found up late on summer nights, winning at cards against her kids and grandkids.

The last chapter of her life was spent at Breck Homes, in Bloomington, MN, with lovely caregivers led by the amazing Jenny Morgan. She enjoyed her time there well. We can never thank them enough for the loving care she received.

Marilyn is survived by children Don (Sue) Whitehead, Karen Huey, and Diane McCormack; grandchildren Lara (Gene) Hatzenbeler, Amy (Corey) Busker, Kelly VanRoy (Mike Avery), Jan (Erik) Blackstad, Marie Huey (Ben Campbell), Nathan Huey, Samantha McCormack, Jared McCormack, and Ari McCormack; 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson; 10 nieces and nephews, and many other extended family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Russell Whitehead and son Craig Russell Whitehead, parents Milton and Clara Lund, and sister Audrey McCormack.

Burial will be at Fort Snelling Cemetery on August 5.

Plans for a celebration of her life gathering are still in process.
