life story

Marie was born March 21, 1935, in Duluth, and raised in Hovland, Minn., 30 miles south of Canada, where the North Woods meet the North Shore of Lake Superior. Her father was a commercial fisherman, and she helped her parents operate their fishing resort. A graduate of the University of Minnesota, after her daughters were grown, she was a diet technician at University of Nebraska Medical Center hospital, in Omaha, where she helped patients choose diets best for their health needs. In this work, and in her life, Marie was ever kind, gentle, and caring, but also hardy, bold, and adventurous. She and her husband, Jack, shared a love of church, theater, the arts, sailing, and travel, including self-guided bicycle tours of Europe. Marie is survived by her loving husband, Jack; and daughters, Mary Zinn and Ellen Zinn. She was predeceased by her father, Nels Norman; mother, Gudrun Norman, both Norwegian immigrants; brother, Lloyd Norman; and daughter, Cathy Zinn.
