Lucy Jacqueline Spina

January 15, 1966 – September 6, 2024

Lucy Jacqueline Spina, age 58, of Brooklyn Park, passed away peacefully on September 6th after courageously battling a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her family and friends and knew how much she was loved.

Lucy was preceded in death by her father, Nicola Spina. Her memory will be cherished by her surviving loved ones - mother, Maria Spina; older brother, Domenic Spina (Lorraine); and younger sister, Linda Spina. Lucy was an adored Aunt to Adrianna, Giovanni (Haley), Luciana and Dario and honorary Aunt to Joshua, Elise, Anna, Talia and Karis. She will forever hold a special place in the hearts of Tanya, Kristen, Stacie, Brian and Jerry and will be greatly missed by her beloved pets, Ziva and Stryder. We rejoice that she has been reunited with her Nonnos, Nonnas, Nicola and Darlene.

Lucy was born in Toronto, Ontario to Nicola and Maria Spina. She attended the University of Toronto, graduating with a degree in Biology. Initially planning to attend medical school, she followed her heart and pursued a career in counseling. She moved to the Twin Cities and earned a master’s degree in counseling from Bethel University focusing on marriage and family therapy. Lucy never hesitated to take on the most difficult cases. Helping countless families, her compassion, kindness and caring were felt by many. Like her father, Nicola, Lucy was able to connect deeply with those around her, bringing peace and understanding to their lives. Lucy's vibrant presence always filled the room. She was witty, smart and a captivating storyteller. She poured her life into helping others in both her career and personal life - to know Lucy was to know that you shared time with a special person.

Growing up Lucy loved spending time with her family camping, hiking and going to the beach. She was an elite soccer player as a teenager and spent many hours on the field with her sister, Linda. As an adult, Lucy brought her athletic skills to the ice where she and her best friend, Kristen, shared their love for hockey. She was a Maple Leafs fan and quickly became a football fan after moving to the States, cheering on the Packers and becoming a part owner of the team. Lucy loved travelling and exploring different cultures visiting Israel, Jordan, Greece, Turkey, Iceland, Belize, Cambodia, Vietnam and Italy. Her heart for others led her to share her faith on mission trips to Honduras and Kenya.

Although it appears that Lucy may have lost the battle – we know better; she ran her race with determination until the end and has gained eternal victory in the arms of her Savior:

2 Timothy 4:7-9 (ESV)

7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

Those of us who will miss her so dearly also know, through the work of Jesus Christ, that we will have the opportunity to see her again exactly as God created her to be. That will be a beautiful day.

A celebration of Lucy’s life will be held on September 28, 2024 at The North Church at 5151 Program Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55112. Visitation will begin at 10am, service at 11am and lunch at noon.
