Loris Eulayne Westrom, 87, of Blackduck, MN, formerly of Bloomington, MN died on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at the Good Samaritan Society, Blackduck.
Loris was born on April 7, 1935 in Blackduck, MN, the daughter of William and Cora (Espe) Neuman. She attended country schools and graduated from Blackduck High School in 1952.
After a year at Bemidji State Teacher’s College she enrolled in the nursing program at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis where she earned her RN degree in 1956. Her first job was at the Bemidji Hospital. During this year she dated Harvey Westrom, a Blackduck teacher, and they married in 1958 at Blackduck’s Zion Lutheran Church.
They lived in Long Prairie, MN for 2 years where daughter’s Barbara and Deborah were born. Then it was on to Las Vegas, New Mexico where Harvey earned his Master’s Degree. She worked part time at hospitals in both cities.
In 1961 Bloomington, MN became home for the next 50+ years. A third daughter, Sandra was born during this time. After the children were in school she resumed working, first at the Minnesota Masonic Home and then various other nursing homes. She retired in 1996.
In 2012 the Bloomington home was sold to be replaced by a town home in Bemidji, MN. Loris enjoyed playing bridge, needlework, spending time at their lake home and winters in Florida & Texas. She and Harvey were avid worldwide travelers, visiting nearly 50 countries.
Loris is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Harvey; 3 daughters, Barbara (Daniel) Szekely, Deborah (Lane) Anderson and Sandra (Mark) Niblick; 4 grandchildren, Jeffrey (Lauren) Luger, Julia Luger, Kaylynn Anderson and Jared Anderson; 1 great grandson, Wesley Luger; sister, Jonette (Terry) Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Cora and William Neuman; and a sister, Ardith Matheny.
