About Lloyd

February 23, 2023, about noon, Lloyd Stoll, drew his last breath. He went in a most peaceful manner, gently holding the hand of his wife of 71 years, Arlene.

Lloyd Abraham Stoll began his life's journey April 5th, 1931, near Frazee, Minnesota, the ninth of eighteen children (one of which did not survive birth, and was buried with mother, Anna who passed away in 1949) to Joseph D. and Anna (Yoder) Stoll. He spent his formative years on the family farm in rural Frazee, leaving home at the the age of fifteen, going to work on his Uncle Abe Stoll's farm in North Dakota. Lloyd enlisted in the army in 1950. And upon completion of boot camp he was deployed to Germany followed by a hitch served in Alaska. While serving in the Army, Lloyd married Arlene Gilbertson, September 16th, 1952, a union which resulted in four children.

Throughout his life of adventure Lloyd enjoyed a variety of employment opportunities, including: farming in Wisconsin, gold mining in Ontario, Canada, carpentry/logging/guiding fishermen - Northwest Angle, MN, truck driving - Minnesota, construction - Minnesota, North Dakota & South Dakota. He followed these years up with working in several Canadian fishing camps as a carpenter & fishing guide. Upon earning his private pilot's license and eventually his commercial pilot's license - Lloyd added Canadian bush pilot to his extensive resume.

Upon retirement Lloyd & Arlene settled down near Detroit Lakes, MN. Even in retirement he remained busy, using his expert carpentry skills to help out his neighbors whenever needed.

Lloyd greatly enjoyed cutting & splitting wood from his property for his woodburning stove, fishing numerous nearby lakes (especially Hungry Lake where it was the Sunnies that were really hungry), deer hunting almost out his back door, and taking his ATV out to explore the off-road trail that was nearby. As his health began to limit those adventures, he had another interest that took up many hours of his day... assembling jigsaw puzzles on a table in front of a picture window where he could observe the numerous birds, squirrels and deer that ventured into view.

Though there were times when he may have wandered spiritually, Lloyd eventually ended up on the path God had planned for him. He was a faithful example to his children as well as to numerous grandchildren & great-grandchildren and multitudes of nieces & nephews.

Surviving Lloyd are his wife - Arlene; children - Lloyd Jr., Glyndon, MN, Irene (Arnold) Baker, South Dakota, Patricia, Detroit Lakes, MN, and Inez (Mitch) Eide, Sanibel, FL; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings - Warren, Raymond, Roy (Bonnie) and Carol (Winston) Hensley; and well over one hundred nieces & nephews.

Preceding Lloyd into the "Great Adventure" were his parents - Joe & Anna (plus his stepmother - Fannie); siblings - Fern (Henry) Buller, Paul (Mary), Ruth (Orie) Schrock, Ella (Vernon) Boss, Ivan (Doris), Doris (Melvin) Eby, Carl (Margaret), Lorna (Floyd) Mjor, Joe (Rhoda), Don (Mary), Ron (Dee) and Roger (Margaret); daughter-in-law - Linda (Lloyd) Stoll. There were a few nieces and nephews that went on ahead as well.

A memorial service at Lake Region Mennonite Church, Detroit Lakes, MN is planned for Wednesday, April 5th, 11:00 AM. Lloyd will be inurned at the Lake Region Mennonite Cemetery.
