life story
Linda Kirk
Linda Kirk passed away peacefully at the age of 78. She grew up in Rapid City, SD and graduated from Rapid City High School. Upon graduation she left for North Central Bible College (North Central University) in Minneapolis to pursue a degree in Music Education. While at North Central she met Jim Kirk and they were married June 26, 1965. Her talent and love of music led her to teach piano lessons at home for 15 years with as many as 50 students at a time. Well respected in the local piano community, she served as President of Burnsville Area Music Teachers Association and enjoyed helping organize the annual Junior Festival. Jim and Linda had two children that they raised in Apple Valley and Lakeville. She and Jim faithfully attended Mt. Olivet Assembly of God for 44 years where she served for a number of years as the choir director and pianist and enjoyed taking part in women’s bible study fellowships. Linda loved spending time with family, exploring scenic drives and playing with her two grandchildren (and grand-dog Wally).
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepsister and two stepbrothers.
She is survived by her husband James Kirk, Eden Prairie, MN; son Chris (Augusta) Kirk, St. Paul, MN; daughter Kari (Scott) Welp and grandchildren Evelyn and Logan, Lakeville, MN.
Visitation will be held at Hosanna Church (Door 5) in Lakeville on May 27th, 2021 at 1:30pm. Funeral services will begin at 2:00pm with Rev. Ken Benson officiating. Internment will be held at Ft. Snelling at a later date. The family requests no flowers.
Family Memories
“Linda always had a great sense of humor. One night, I had a vivid dream and she heard me talking in the middle of the night saying “Welcome, welcome to our country!”. When we woke up, she said, “Well....weren’t you Mr. Bigshot last night!” I told her I was dreaming I was assigned to greet foreign dignitaries at the airport. We laughed and laughed.“- Jim
“I’ll always enjoy the memory of hiking Sylvan Lake trail with my Mom. Walking up some tall hills, she would get out of breath and we would take our sweet time to stare out over many scenic overlooks and just take it all in.” - Chris
“I remember how mom used to often weep when worshiping the Lord during the many hours we’d spend each week at church. She was fervent in her prayers and was just the kind of mother I could ever hope to be. I think it’s something about being a mother that made her worship that way because I find myself doing the same thing these days.” -Kari
“I will always remember Linda for her kindness, warmth and ever-present joy. Her patience was unmatched. The only time I witnessed any semblance of frustration from her was on Thanksgiving when she inevitably wouldn’t be pleased with the temperature of the food, thinking it was too cold. It would go right in the microwave. Every time.” -Scott
“It was fun walking in the halls with Grandma at her house. Grandma played with me and I liked going to the zoo with Grandma. “- Evelyn
“Grandma came to the park and watched me on the zipline. I liked Christmas with Grandma at Grandma’s house.” -Logan
“Linda had the best laugh. I always looked forward to seeing her, as I knew we would be laughing. I hear her laugh when Chris laughs-he laughs a lot, so it is nice to know she will often come to mind. Best memory was our first night in Paris. We missed the last train for the night and our hotel was far away-so we decided to stay out all night and catch the first train in the morning. Chris, Kari, Linda, and I had so much fun walking the streets of Paris at night, laughing about the situation we found ourselves in, and finding a café that stayed open until 4a. It is a night I will never forget, and so happy Linda was there.” - Augusta
