Obituary

After a hard-fought battle with lung cancer, Leroy McGhee passed away on October 6, 2022 while in Hospice care at the age of 72. He is survived by his wife Helen McGhee; daughter Susan McGhee; Sons Vincent and Darrell McGhee; granddaughters Bria, Maya, and Sasha; grandsons Corey and Brandon; and 3 great-grandchildren Emerald, Karter, and Kinzley.

Born in Columbus, OH, Leroy was the youngest of 3 to Mother Leslie McGhee and Father Willie McGhee. He learned mechanics from his father and after graduating high school Leroy worked for an auto repair shop. He later developed a passion for carpentry and enjoyed the trade ever since.

Leroy married Helen Patterson on February 22, 1975. They lived in Sandusky and Toledo OH before settling in Detroit, MI in 1978. There Leroy and Helen lived and raised their 3 children; Susan, Vincent, and Darrell.

Leroy was a driven professional with a strong work ethic. He loved church and devoted much of his time to serving the usher board and testifying before god. Outside of the church he was an avid car enthusiast and loved to work on and test vehicles. When diagnosed with lung cancer in January 2022, Leroy remained dedicated to his faith and optimistic that he would beat this cancer. He remained brave, even throughout his final weeks.

Leroy is proceeded in death by his parents Leslie and Willie McGhee; Brother James McGhee; and sister Kolleen McGhee.
