Leonard Robert Hemmerich, 83, of Park Rapids, MN passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at home.

Leonard was born on July 31, 1938 to Roy and Helen Hemmerich in Park Rapids. Leonard worked on the family farm and after graduation went on to work for Northern States Power from where he retired in January 1995.

He became an active member/Director of the Lake Itasca Region Pioneer Farmers and carried on the family legacy of the Roy Hemmerich Historic Sawmill.

In 1961, Leonard married Georgia (Komula) Thometz and they had six children, residing most of their years in Coon Rapids, MN and Elk River, MN.

In 1985, Leonard married Addie Acker and he gained a stepson. They were married and lived in Elk River prior to moving to Fort Ripley in 1994. In 2002, they moved back to Park Rapids.

As a child Leonard was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church and rejoined the church after moving back to Park Rapids.

Leonard is preceded in death by parents, Roy and Helen Hemmerich; brother, Gordon Hemmerich; brother-in-law, Charles Reynolds; sister-in-law, Jeannine Hemmerich; along with many other family and friends that were very special to him.

He is survived by his wife, Addie Hemmerich; brother, Earl Hemmerich; sister, Marlene Reynolds; children, Scott (Pam) Hemmerich, Gregg (Tammy) Hemmerich, Sheryl (Dwain) Ford, John (Tina) Hemmerich, Lori (Gary) Hemmerich, Fred (Shelly) Hemmerich and stepson, Rick (Heather) Acker; 22 grandkids and 28 great grandkids.

Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday. A luncheon will hosted by the church following the services.
