Lawrence Bellefy, 87, of Bagley, Minnesota died on Wednesday December 7, 2022 at Sanford Fargo Medical Center.

Lawrence was born on January 23, 1935 in Bagley, Minnesota to Lewis and Alma (Kjomme) Bellefy. In 1958, he entered the United States Air Force and was stationed in the Pacific as an Airman 1st Class. He came back to Bagley after his service and married Frances Lorene Johnson on June 9, 1959.

Together, Lawrence and Frances had three children, Larry, Jack, and Lori. Frances passed away from cancer on October 20, 1982.

Over the years Lawrence worked at Fletcher Mills, logged with Knutsons, and built elevators. But his main career was with Gesells where he worked for 47 years driving block truck.

On June 2, 1985, Lawrence married Jane (Calogero) and they built a life together. They loved to watch Wheel of Fortune, The Price is Right, and football. Lawrence loved to cheer for the Vikings.

He could often be found tinkering or working on projects. He could fix or build almost anything, but he wouldn’t take any help. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and taught his kids how. Even though he couldn’t swim, he made sure his kids got out on the water to fish.

He was an excellent whistler and would truly whistle while he worked. Lawrence was a member of the Irvin Blix American Legion, Bethel Lutheran Church, and enrolled member of the White Earth Band of Ojibwe.

Lawrence was a kind and amazing person. He had a big heart and was full of love. He was great with little kids and had a tremendous devotion to his family.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jane Bellefy; his children, Larry (Lisa) Bellefy, Jack (Nan) Bellefy, and Lori (Jeff) Rassel; his grandchildren, Shane (Kristen) Bellefy, Paige Bellefy (Matt), Austin Bellefy, T-Jay Bellefy (Caitlyn), Kiel (Lindsey) Rassel, and Shania (Caleb) Buren; his great grandchildren, Mariah, Westin, Morgan, Harper, Bentlee, and Jacquelyn; his step son, Anthony Emerson; his step grandchildren, Derek Emerson (Brandon Schulz), Dustin Hadrava, Makenzie Emerson, Kristin Emerson (Mike), and Anthony Emerson; his siblings, Adeline Wooliscroft and Joe Bellefy; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loved family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Alma Bellefy; his first wife, Frances Bellefy; his granddaughter, Ashley Rassel; his step daughter, Dawn Marie Emerson; and his siblings, Orville, Mearle, Avis, Florence, Verna, Caroline, Richard, Marvin, Diane, Gene, and Lewis, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, plant a tree in Lawrence’s memory.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the spring at Nora Township Cemetery near Bethel Lutheran Church in Bagley, Minnesota.
