life story
Lawrence ("Larry" or "Charlie") Charlebois passed away on May 20, 2022 from complications from diabetes, depression, and cancer. Charlie was born to Robert Edward Charlebois and Edith Lisbeth Hinkeldei in Munich, Germany. As a young boy, he flew from Germany to New York to live with relatives for a year, despite speaking no English. As a teen, he, his mother, and his younger brother, Michael, moved from Germany to St. Louis. MO. Several months later, his father joined them and the family moved to the Minneapolis area where his father was born and raised. The family settled in St. Louis Park, MN and Charlie graduated from St. Louis Park High School in 1966. After high school, Charlie joined the military becoming a tank commander in the Army and was stationed at a military base in Germany (not far from where he grew up!). After leaving the military, Charlie became a police officer with the University of Minnesota Police Department. During his time with the department he met the love of his life Terri Peterson and the two were soon married. The couple had two boys and settled in Bloomington, MN. Charlie suffered from depression throughout his life. After leaving the U of M police department his marriage began to unravel and dissolved. In 1990, he moved to Lanesboro, MN and opened the Parkway Pub. There he enjoyed the company and friends and a close knit community. He was very bright, quick witted, and enjoyed dry humor. He enjoyed watching Minnesota Vikings games and Jeopardy.
Charlie is survived by his Brother Michael (Cindy) of Lanesboro, MN, Sons Christian (Sarah) Charlebois of Golden Valley, MN and Tony (Jennifer) Charlebois of Rochester, MN, Grandchildren Rand (Kira) Silvers of St. Paul, MN, Matrim Charlebois of St. Paul, MN, and CJ (Morgan) Charlebois of Menomonie, WI, Kekoa and Isla Charlebois of Rochester, MN.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Edith Henkeldei.
