life story
LaVonne “Bonnie” Kirscher, age 82, of Maplewood, MN passed away peacefully but too soon on March 3, 2026. She will be missed dearly by many.
Bonnie was born on January 14, 1944 to Knute Stovern and Margaret Cromey in Aberdeen, SD. Bonnie was the first born daughter and helped care for her younger brothers growing up and learned how to cook while her mom worked long hours at a restaurant.
She met and married her husband Richard Kirscher when she was 20 years old in 1964 in Saint Paul, MN. They remained married until his passing in 1990. Bonnie and Richard had five children together that she loved deeply. It was from these five and all of their friends, whom she treated as her own, that she happily earned the nickname “Ma” from.
Bonnie would go on to be a devoted grandma to seven grandkids and four great-grandkids, and be anticipating the arrival of an additional great grandson and a great-great grandson. To these, she was a caregiver, a safe space, a warrior, a confidant, and a shoulder to lean on.
She loved cooking, traveling, learning and sharing family history, reading, crafting, getting together with friends to play cards and games, sharing stories of her youth, and spending time with her family. Bonnie was a social butterfly and active in her community her whole life, whether it was in city planning/community development when she was younger or, later in life, in her apartment complex.
Bonnie made it a point to remember the little things, and always used those little details to find a small way to go out of her way for you or help you in whatever way she could. But she was also known for her strong will and feistiness. She was proud of her motto: “When I get old, I don’t want people thinking what a sweet little old lady, I want them saying oh crap what is she up to now.”
She leaves behind a huge hole in the hearts of her family and friends, who will always cherish their memories of her and the unique relationship she fostered with each of them.
Preceded in death by husband Richard, parents Knute and Margaret, and brother Russell. Survived by children Rick, Candi, Toni, Dawn and Sonny; grandchildren Josh (Charlotte), Amber, Kayla (Danny), Brandy and three additional; great-grandchildren Logan, CJ, Evan, Luella, and great-grandson to be Henry; great-great grandson-to-be; brother Laverne; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Bonnie’s Life will be held Sunday, March 22, 2026 at the hall at NALC Branch 28 (1715 Van Dyke St. Maplewood, MN 55109) from 11am-2pm.
