About Larry

Larry was born February 12, 1937, in Long Prairie Township to Christine (Loegering) and Sylvester Eggerth. Around 1955 Larry moved to Minneapolis to work as a backhoe operator.

In 1960, Larry was drafted and served in the Army in Norfolk, Virginia overseeing a boat responsible for running supplies from shore to the Navy boats. He received medals for expert M1 Rifle, marksman (Carbine) and .50 caliber machine gun marksmanship. Larry shared many stories of his time in the military, the men he served with, and the valuable lessons learned.

On April 28, 1972, Larry and Bev Boyer were united in marriage at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Long Prairie. They made their home east of Long Prairie and eventually welcomed four children, Jack, Gerald, Melissa, and Brenda. In 1976, Larry and Bev purchased an excavating business and started Larry Eggerth Excavating, a successful career he continued until retirement in 1996. He took pride in his work and enjoyed the customers and people he met along the way.

When not working, Larry enjoyed making the most out of life. He traveled extensively taking numerous vacations a year with his wife, family, and friends. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed many trips to the Lake of the Woods, Canada, Alaska, Texas, Montana, and Lake Michigan, many “with the guys.” He enjoyed snowmobiling, ice fishing, four wheeling, tractors, old cars and working outside in the woods. He enjoyed watching Nascar, cheering on any racer driving a Ford, and traveling to many of the different racetracks throughout the United States.

One of Larry’s most cherished things in life was being a grandpa to his two grandsons Tyler and Derek. He loved sharing his interests with them, especially teaching them about engines, hunting, fishing, and responsibility of family. He shared his love of the outdoors and was always quick to race them on the snowmobile or four-wheeler.

Larry’s survivors include his wife of nearly 50 years, Beverly; daughters, Melissa (Gordon) Ross and Brenda (Nic) Collette; grandsons, Tyler Ross and Derek Ross; sibling, Marilyn Steinert; sister-in-law, Karen Eggerth and Lorraine Venzke; and brothers-in-law, Jimmy Mikel and Larry Leighton.

Larry was preceded in death by his twin infant sons Jack and Gerald; parents, Sylvester and Christine Eggerth; siblings, Barbara Mikel, Karen Leighton, and Jay Eggerth; and his mother and father in-law, John and Alma Boyer; sister-in-law, Geraldine Opsal; brothers-in-law, Dennis Venzke, Donnie Opsal, and Otto Steinert.
