Kirk D. Rieger

September 9, 1953 – August 26, 2025

life story

Kirk Douglas Rieger, 71, passed away on August 26, 2025. Kirk’s final day was spent at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina; he was surrounded by family and friends throughout the day.

Kirk is survived by his wife, Cindy Rieger of Lewisville, NC; children, Todd(Mary) of Clemmons, NC, Adam of Lewisville, NC, and Luka(Sara) of Cary, NC; sister Cheryl Rice of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, and his half brothers that he met in adulthood Dan(Peggy) Baker of Wooster, OH, Dean Baker of Wooster, OH, and Doug Baker of Greely, CO.

He is preceded in death by his son, Eric Rieger of Raleigh, NC; parents Charles and Reva Rieger of Alliance, OH; biological mother, Julia Barnes of Wooster, OH; and half brother Kirk Baker of Wooster, OH.

Kirk, born on September 9, 1953, was the son of Charles and Reva Rieger. He was raised in Ohio and subsequently pursued higher education at Akron University, where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees. Kirk met Cindy while they were both attending Akron University. They married in July of 1977 and raised four children together. Kirk’s legacy continues through his children and grandchildren—Grant, Grace, Jackson, and Tavi—who brought immense joy to his life.

Outside of spending time with family, Kirk had a deep appreciation for sports of all types and live music. Whether watching his favorite Ohio sports teams on TV or attending live games and concerts, he found great enjoyment sharing these moments with his family and friends, often taking his children and grandchildren. He was also known for his propensity to buy personalized gifts for his loved ones with anything from personalized mugs to pocket knives. Kirk never came across a multitool he did not need to add to his collection or give to others (or both). The holidays were his favorite time of year and he always looked forward to the traditions of family gatherings for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all whose lives he touched. A funeral service will be held on September 13, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Lewisville United Methodist Church, 6290 Shallowford Rd, Lewisville, NC 27023. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to WFDD or your local public radio station in his memory.
