life story
A loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend
"So, on the hard days, you must remind yourself: You wouldn't trade the love to escape the grief. You wouldn't erase the happiness to avoid the pain. And you will endure a lifetime of missing for the privilege of having loved."
About Kevin
Kevin Mikel Cook, age 37, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Kevin was born on September 23, 1988, in Overland Park, Kansas, to Len Mikel Cook and Debra Galvin. He was the youngest of three children. Growing up in Lenexa, Kansas, Kevin attended Saint Thomas Aquinas High School and later the University of Kansas.
Kevin moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, in 2019. With his kind and hardworking nature, he quickly rose in the restaurant industry, successfully managing Café Zupas for many years. His work ethic was always unmatched, and he easily earned the respect and friendship of his fellow employees.
Outside of work, Kevin enjoyed being active outdoors, with a special passion for exploring national parks. For his 35th birthday, he traveled to Yosemite National Park, which he proudly declared the best trip ever. Kevin and Anni were dog parents to their beloved English Golden Retriever, Butters, and made sure to include him in as many outdoor adventures as possible. Kevin was also an incredible cook, mastering many dishes—especially the perfect steak. He enjoyed playing on recreational baseball and softball teams, going to the gym, and spending time with friends.
Although Kevin lived in Minnesota for many years, he never lost his Kansas City roots—remaining a loyal fan of the Chiefs and Royals and maintaining a deep love for Kansas City barbecue. Our family is especially grateful that he made the trip home for Christmas, spending the holiday with us and enjoying some barbecue while he was in town.
Kevin’s consideration for others, genuinely kind nature, and unwavering loyalty made him easy to love. Though he was the “baby” of the family, his 6’3” frame, red hair, and infectious laugh made him stand out in the best way.
We will miss Kevin dearly and take comfort in knowing he has been welcomed into heaven by our mom and all the other family members who loved him so deeply.
Kevin is preceded in death by his mother, Debra Galvin and cousin, Andrew Canon. He is survived by his father, Len Mikel Cook (Lisa), stepfather Michael Thompson, siblings Sarah McCreary (Josh) and Jeffrey Cook, and the love of his life, Annielssy Gonzalez. Kevin was an amazing uncle to Jace, Reese, Mason, and Noah as well as a nephew and cousin to an amazingly supportive family.
