Kenneth William Scott
September 14, 1952 – February 21, 2026
life story
Kenneth William Scott, known and loved by most as Kenny, passed away on February 21, 2026. He was born on September 14, 1952, and in his seventy-three years, he lived a life that could never be described as ordinary or conventional.
Kenny was a deeply Southern man in heart and soul. Over six feet tall, with a booming voice as rich and steady as an old country song, he carried himself with strength and a touch of mystery. He had a way of showing up when you least expected it and slipping away just the same, always on his own time. His freedom meant everything to him, both in his own life and for his country.
He proudly served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps, a commitment that remained a lifelong source of pride.
Kenny loved music, especially the guitar. He liked to say you only really needed three chords to play just about any song. He loved nature and capturing the world around him in photographs. He was a gifted storyteller, a man who could hold a porch full of people in the palm of his hand with a well-timed pause and a knowing grin.
He didn’t know a stranger and could talk to anyone about anything who was willing to listen. His humor was sharp and dry, and he loved a good joke or prank, harmless in intent, mischievous in spirit. If you managed to make him laugh, it felt like you had accomplished something special.
He loved his friends and family deeply, but more than anything, Kenny loved the Lord. He often reminded everyone around him that God has a plan, and worrying will not change it. He signed off nearly every conversation the same way, with the words, “Be good.”
In recent years, Kenny mainly resided in Old Fort, North Carolina, where he built a close community of friends who became like a second family. He was known for lending a hand, and after Hurricane Helene, he used his deep knowledge of the mountains to help get supplies to neighbors in need, quietly serving others without ever asking for recognition.
He dearly loved his dog, Rambo, his faithful companion through many seasons of life.
Kenny was preceded in death by his father, Tom Scott of Sumter, South Carolina; his mother, Edith Griffin of Sumter, South Carolina; his sister, Brenda LaRocco of Parma, Ohio; and his nephew, Michael LaRocco.
He is survived by his sister, Julie Cave of Sumter, South Carolina; his brother-in-law, Salvador LaRocco of Parma, Ohio; his nephews, Anthony LaRocco of Parma, Ohio, and Robert Cave of Sumter, South Carolina; his nieces, Deela Cave of Sumter, South Carolina, and Lisa McAllister of Florida; and his grandnieces, Aviae LaRocco of Parma, Ohio, and Allison Cave of Sumter, South Carolina.
Kenny chose to be cremated, and his ashes will be spread in his beloved Blue Ridge Mountains, a place that felt like home to his wandering heart.
He lived freely, loved deeply, laughed loudly, and trusted God fully. The mountains will hold his stories now, but we will hold his memory in our hearts forever.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to one of the nonprofit charities listed below that were meaningful to Kenny.
