life story

Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door

Kathleen (Kathy) Anne Dougherty (Lauzon), a cherished soul, passed away on December 25, 2024, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, surrounded by the love of her family and friends. Born on March 28, 1962, as the seventh child of nine to Margaret (Peg) and Robert (Bob) Lauzon at St. Mary’s Hospital in Minneapolis, Kathy grew up in New Hope, MN, where her vibrant spirit and infectious laughter illuminated the lives of those around her. Following the passing of her father, her mother married Richard (Dick) Cotter, expanding their family to a remarkable 19 siblings, a testament to the strength of familial bonds that Kathy cherished throughout her life. A passionate music lover, Kathy was known for her bright, bubbly personality and her adventurous spirit, often traveling with her best friend, Mary Kay, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and joy. As a devoted mother and grandmother, she poured her heart into her children—Kayleen (Daniel) Koetz, Ryan Dougherty, and Katie (Dillon) Downs—and was a doting grandmother to Kevin, Mardie, and Archimedes, nurturing them with love and kindness. Kathy’s selflessness and ability to put others before herself made her a beloved figure in the lives of many; she had a unique gift for bringing fun and lightheartedness to every gathering. She leaves behind not only her children and grandchildren but also her partner Bob McLain, loving siblings, countless nieces and nephews, and a host of friends who will forever cherish her memory. Kathy’s legacy of love, kindness, and joy will continue to resonate with all who were fortunate enough to know her. Party on, Kathy!
