life story

A loving mom

A limb has fallen from the family tree. I keep hearing a voice that says, “Grieve not for me. Remember the best times, the laughter, the song. The good life I lived while I was strong. Continue my heritage, I’m counting on you. Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through. My mind is at ease. My soul is at rest. Remembering all, how I truly was blessed. Continue traditions, no matter how small. Go on with your life, don’t worry about falls. I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin. Until the day comes, we’re together again.”

On June 20, 2024, Julie Wickstrom passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Cerenity Marian Care Center, St. Paul, MN. Julie was born on August 4, 1933, in Rutland, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alan and Marjorie (Lansing) Skow, brothers, Keith & Bruce Skow and grandson, Beau James Behrendt.

Survived by sister, Diane Johnson

Children, Deb (Vince), Gary, Kathy (Stephen), Kent, Tom (Kathleen), Mary Jane (Jeffrey). Grandchildren, Lee (Angie), Kelly (Matthew), Rachel (Shane), Cole, Zachary, Bridget, Brooke, Audrey (Sam), Lilly, 5 Great Grandchildren and many Nieces & Nephews.

Julie was proud of her farming roots. She loved her parents and talked often about her upbringing: from a one room schoolhouse, detasseling corn, World War II to the many memories she had of raising her family. Her six kids were the joy of her life. She loved the natural world, especially trees. Her passion was being creative, decorating her home for every season and trying a new craft project. In her later years, she started painting landscapes on canvas and was so prolific there were often two paintings on the front and back of a piece of cardboard. Many of these are in her children and grandchildren's home. Like many women of her era, she started as a homemaker, but was very proud of the fact that in the late 60's she became a working woman and held many small business managerial positions. In the past few years, we were very fortunate that we could spend quality time, taking her on road trips and picnics.

The family wishes to thank the Cerenity Marian Care Center staff; they are our Caring Angels.
