About Judy
Judith Clarice Coil, 66, of Kelliher, MN, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at her home in Kelliher.
Judith was born on March 21, 1955 to Clarice and Charles Beck in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She bore two wonderful daughters. Trauma, suffered as a child, caused some difficult years. She moved to Kelliher, Minnesota in 1993 and married Jon Coil in 1995.
Judy loved music and dancing. She had a fabulous knowledge of food, and was smart and friendly. At 40 years old, Judy took an interest in hunting and dogs. She was a great wing shot and hunted ruffed grouse, woodcock, pheasants, ducks, sharp-tail grouse, gray partridge and deer. She hunted in Saskatchewan Prairies for several years, as well as North Dakota and Minnesota. Judy hunted ruffed grouse and woodcock on her own in the Minnesota woods near her home, but could hold her own hunting with a group of men, both in shooting and toasting the day with a sundown shot of bourbon.
She had two Cesky Fousek hunting dogs that she trained herself and completed the Cesky Fousek North America Breed Club’s progeny hunting standard’s test. She went on to hunt each dog extensively. As Secretary of the Cesky Fousek North America Breed Club for 17 years, Judy met and befriended dog lovers from all over the country. “Ask Judy,” was a common statement when questions came up at the annual board meetings, and Judy, though not a great traveler, made her way to Baraboo, Wisconsin and Twin Falls, Idaho multiple times for dog hunt tests and meetings.
Working at the Village One Stop in Kelliher for 15 years, Judy met and befriended a wide range of people from all the residents to travelers far and wide. She mentored dozens of young people in one of their first jobs on the proper way to clean a public toilet.
Judy suffered from, and was treated for, Essential thrombocythemia, a blood disorder that transitioned to Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Judy chose palliative care, then hospice care. We appreciate the care she received from her Sanford Doctors and the whole Sanford Hospice team. They patiently explained the options and helped Judy spend her last months comfortably.
Judy is survived by her husband Jon Coil; wonderful daughters, Lori Beck Barbierei (Rob Ames) and Niki Uhuru; her mother Clarice Hotchkiss; her much loved sister, Kathleen (Jim) Tischler; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.
