Obituary Notice for Judd Herrmann
Judd Herrmann died peacefully in hospice care at the VA Medical Center on July 21, 2024, at 4:50 AM with his wife by his side. Many family members and friends visited him in his last days and hours. Judd was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to John Herrmann and Miriam Patricia Campbell Herrmann on June 11, 1946. He is survived by his wife, Marcia Gage, sons Trevis Herrmann and Jaymik Herrmann (Nicole); four grandchildren, Jayden, Cole, Hilaria, and Luka; stepsons, Ben Videen(Margaret), Jon Videen(Sally), Sam Videen, and Dominic Gill, and step-grandchildren Emma, Stella, Miko, Grace, and Avery. He also leaves behind a sister, Penny Eden, a niece, Danielle Busby (Trevor), great nieces Elle and Lyric, and nephew, Max Eden. Additionally, Judd had many cousins, in-laws, and friends who will greatly miss him. He is preceded in death by his brother, Jack Herrmann.
As a songwriter and poet, Judd loved the written word as a participant and an observer. In the 1990s, he enjoyed somewhat of a local celebrity status and even received notable press coverage and media praise. He continued his prose and poetry activities throughout his life, most recently manifesting his observations through a stuffed Chihuahua in his Facebook postings, ‘Mondays with Mateo.’ He was an enthusiastic atheist and a lifelong member of Freedom from Religion. He loved baseball, especially his Minnesota Twins. Judd retained a deep interest in politics throughout his life. He also enjoyed living in Mexico with his wife and other travel adventures, such as baseball road trips, cruises, and travels throughout Europe.
Judd served in the United States Army for slightly over two years, from 1966 to 1968, most notably as a paratrooper in Mainz, Germany. Although he was drafted and was not a fan of military life overall, he later appreciated the travel and cultural experiences and the level of healthcare it provided him. He traveled to several European countries later in life, probably Germany, most enthusiastically.
Judd lived with COPD for many years and had recently been diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma. It was a rare form of pneumonia that ended his life due to a severely compromised immune system. Judd would want to thank the VA Medical Center, especially the Oncology, Infectious Disease and Hospice teams, and everyone expressing their love and concern for him and his family.
Judd lived and died on his terms and is now at peace. We will plan a Celebration of Life for the latter part of September, and this page will be updated with the details as they unfold. Memorials are preferred to Act Blue, Freedom from Religion, or the family.

Gathering at Monchis
November 22, 2024
Today, several people gathered at Judd's favorite bar in PV. We shared pictures. music, and stories. And we enjoyed Rosie's famous lasagna. Thank you everyone who attended and sent their well wishes.
On Monday, November 19th, I quietly sent Judd off into the Pacific. My friend Meg accompanied me, and I read some quotes from some of Judd's favorite artists and writers. Perhaps his favorite may have been by Oscar Wilde: "I am dying beyond my means."

Hello all!
Thank you so much for everyone who attended the Celebration of Life for Judd on Sunday. We had a tremendous turn out of about 100 people including family from all sides and friends from high school, workplaces, and various communities.
The food and libations were terrific thanks to Jaymik and Trevis Herrmann. We shared pictures and poetry and played Judd's music and that of artists he loved.
We also raised $150 each for Act Blue and Freedom from Religion at the party. Judd would approve.
If anyone has pictures from the event they would like to share, please email them to me at:

Thank you so much
I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support for Judd and his family. Please feel free to share your memories and photos of Judd. This is a surreal and much more difficult experience than I expected, and I appreciate everyone's contributions to the Guest Book. How can a larger than life individual, suddenly be gone?
A heartfelt thank you for everyone's support
This is a more difficult time than I anticipated, and I really do appreciate the cards and well wishes I have received. I addition to dealing with grief, I am cleaning out this apartment and getting ready to go to Mexico in November. It's possible that I may end up snow birding, depending on the state of our democracy.
Now on to Mexico
As many of you know, I will be spending the next couple of months getting ready to go to Mexico. How much time I'll spend there has yet to be determined. But I do have Judd to thank for introducing me to Puerto Vallarta, a place I love and feel safe and comfortable.
I will bring Judd's ashes with me and send him off into the Pacific. I plan to have a celebration at one of his favorite spots in PV as well.
