Joyce Irene Johnson, 75, of Blackduck, MN died on November 9, 2024 at the Sanford Bagley Medical Center in Bagley, MN.

Joyce was born on November 17, 1948 in Bemidji, MN, the daughter of Martin and Eleanor (Clift) Safe. She was raised in the Alvwood area and attended school in Squaw Lake and Blackduck. She graduated from Blackduck High School on May 24, 1966. She worked as a nursing assistant at the Bemidji Hospital until her marriage. She married Larry Ervin Johnson on October 7, 1967 in Alvwood, MN. They made their home on a farm in the Blackduck area where she did homemaking and helped with the farming.

She was an active member of the Blackduck Evangelical Free Church and a former member of Crossroads Church in Bemidji. She taught Sunday school & Vacation Bible School and attended women’s groups & Bible study at church. She was an avid collector of lighthouses, bells and pewter figurines. She enjoyed visiting family & friends, traveling, family reunions, camping, attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, antique and thrift shopping and attending concerts.

She is survived by her sons, William (Cary) Johnson of Spring, TX, and Loren (Sharon) Johnson of Dickinson, ND; daughter, Sandee (Steven) Nattrass of Blackduck, MN; 10 Grandchildren, Meghanne, Keziah (Peter), Madison, Colten (Makenzie), Ahava (Steven), Ashlynne, Jaccob, Kadin, Yakira and Tirzah; great-granddaughter, Adrielle; brother, Ken M. Safe of Albemarle, NC; sister, Nancy (Rick) Mares of Eau Claire, WI; sisters-in-law, Carol Johnson, and Peggy Gross; step brothers-in-law & sister-in-laws, Jolaine (Rodney) Boreen, Richard (Audrey) Michalicek, Marilyn (Nyle) Pasko, Harry (Kay) Michalicek and Ken (Jan) Michalicek; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Larry; her parents, Martin and Eleanor Safe; in-laws, Mike & Irene Michalicek; and brothers-in-laws, Walter and Clarence Johnson.

Blackduck Evangelical Free Church 241 Oscar Ave, Blackduck, MN 56630, USA

Pastor Eric Graham will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Blackduck, and from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Interment will be in Lakeville Cemetery in Blackduck, MN.
