In Loving Memory

John Victor Anderson

March 12, 1947 – December 11, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, John Victor Anderson, who passed away unexpectedly on December 11 at the age of 78. John was a brother, father, grandfather, and a steady presence in the lives of those who knew him. Affable and kind, John was a unique man who cherished family, had a deep love for Minnesota sports, and whose spirit left a lasting impression on all that met or knew him.

John was born on March 12, 1947 and raised in Litchfield, Minnesota. When he was just three years old, his father, Luther – a Navy Corpsman – suffered a debilitating stroke after his return from the Pacific in World War II. John and his siblings were raised primarily by his mother, Ruby, an accomplished nurse whose strength, compassion, and resilience shaped their household – despite the tragedy of Luther’s stroke. John loved his mom deeply and carried her influence with him throughout his life.

John and his siblings, Randa, Larry and David, were a spirited family known for their antics and sense of humor. John, also known as “Spinner” from his childhood basketball days, shared a lifelong bond with his siblings, valued regular phone calls with them, cherished family reunions, and looked forward to an annual fly-in fishing trip to Canada.

John graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in engineering and went on to build a career at 3M as a quality engineer. He had an incredible affinity for math and often used numbers and patterns to make sense of the world around him.

John found comfort in the simple pleasures whether time with family over a game of cribbage, conversations had over a few beers with olives, or following the Minnesota Gophers and Vikings to name a few! In his younger years, he was an avid marathon runner and a devoted hockey dad that could be found behind the wheel of the Zamboni. He was a fiercely loyal sibling, an ever-present friend at the Village Inn, and a grandpa who loved holidays of all kinds with family. Later in life, John’s progressive hearing loss began to rob him of the conversations that he enjoyed so much. The hunt for lost hearing aids is among our favorite stories!

John is survived by his younger brother, David; his children, Jerod Anderson (Jeana), Jason Anderson (Colette), and Jamie Brooks (Colin); his grandchildren, Johannes Anderson, Arlo Anderson, Anderson Brooks, and Remy Anderson. He is also remembered by many extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his older siblings, Larry Anderson and Randa Wetenkamp.

Even though he has passed and his journey on earth is run, John will live forever in our hearts and memories until we meet again. In his own words, “Golly Bunkers!”.
