John was raised in Circle Pines, MN and graduated from Centennial High School in 1982. John joined the United States Air Force in 1985. He married his wife, Kristy, in 1986 and they resided together at K.I. Sawyer AFB, MI. After active duty, John continued his service with the U.S. Air Force Reserves and proudly served his country for 29 years.
John was a Senior Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force Reserves at the 934th Airlift Wing. He held positions as a Crew Chief, QA Inspector, Accessories Flight Chief, and lastly a Production Superintendent. He served in Operation Noble Eagle, Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and Volant Oak and received the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and many more.
Following his retirement from the Air Force, he continued his career with the Defense Contract Management Agency as a Quality Assurance Specialist where he was still employed; ensuring warfighters have the best and most current equipment available. He was recently awarded the 2022 Civil Servant of the Year Award.
Other than spending time with his family and friends, John was an avid outdoorsman with his biggest passions being walleye fishing and deer hunting. He was a proud Skeeter owner and enjoyed tournament fishing through the Minnesota Tournament Trail (MTT).
John, AKA “1shot” and “honest John” was a kind, loving, smart, hardworking, successful, standup man with great integrity. John was mechanically inclined and was often called upon by family and friends to fix this or that. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand. John was quick-witted and never missed an opportunity to crack a joke.
John was taken from us way too soon, but he lived his 58 years to the absolute fullest. John would want us to celebrate him, not mourn him.
