life story

John Kerr Olson, 72, passed away on March 1, 2025, in Scottsdale , Arizona. He was born on August 31, 1952, in Bay City, Michigan. John lived a life marked by curiosity, dedication, and a deep love for both his work and family.

John pursued his passion for engineering with determination and excellence. He earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering from Michigan State University in 1970 before continuing to receive his master’s degree in engineering from Stanford University in California. His time in California found him working at SRI (Stanford Research Institute) and ESL (Electromagnetic Scientific Labs).

After his years in California working on special government contracts, he decided to head back to Michigan where he worked for his father’s business, Trend Vendors, in Cass City. His many previous achievements laid the foundation for a successful career that culminated in the founding of his own company, Analytical Solution, Inc. It is here that he was able to apply his expertise and vision to build a respected business.

Known affectionately by his son and friends, as “Johnny O”, John brought humor and warmth to all who met him. Whether navigating complex engineering challenges or sharing stories with friends and loved ones, he approached life with enthusiasm and authenticity.

Outside of work, John found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He pursued his love for snow skiing by spending time skiing at Lake Tahoe. It has been said that he was a ski patrol at Palisades Tahoe National Park. He was also an avid hiker who cherished time spent exploring trails with friends and family! Above all else, he treasured moments with his family, especially the time he shared with his granddaughter, Charlie.

John is lovingly remembered by his son Andrew Olson; his daughter-in-law Sarah Olson; granddaughter Charlie Olson; his sister, Judy Olson Spain and brother-in-law Mark Spain; niece Lauren Ley and nephew in-law Thomas Ley along with great nieces Kinsey and Joslyn Ley, and great nephew Austin Ley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jean Kerr Olson and Freidolph (Fritz) Olson.

A celebration of John’s life was held 4/19/2025 in Scottsdale, Arizona.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all who carry forward the legacy of laughter, intellect, and love. A Memorial Service officiated by Pastor Hand of the Tawas Presbyterian Church will be held on June 28, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Sims-Whitney Cemetery 4489 E. Huron Rd., Au Gres, MI 48703. There will be a celebration of life after the service at the Point Lookout Community Hall.
