John Lebeis was born to parents Douglas and Agnes on January 24th, 1940, in Sand Creek Township, WI. He was oldest of five siblings that include, Edward, Kathleen, Patrick, and half-brother, Dennis.
He was raised on a farm in rural Sand Creek Township outside of the nearby town of Colfax, WI. John attended Colfax High School where he graduated in 1957.
From High School he went directly to the Great Lakes Naval Training Center and graduated on August 8th, 1957. From there, he was recommended to join the Naval Aviators. He was stationed on the USS Essex on June 1st, 1958, where he began his Naval career. He was honorably discharged from active duty to the Naval Reserves on January 13th, 1961. During his active-duty time he received one "Good Conduct Medal" for his service ending on June 19th, 1960.
John jumped right into the workforce in 1962. He worked his entire career at Waldorf Paper Mill (Currently WestRock) in the storeroom as a "storekeeper." He married his first wife, Karen, in 1963. He had his two children listed above during this relationship. John spent 10 years with Karen before ending his relationship in 1973 and remarrying in 1986 to his last wife, Judith. He gained a built-in son, Ben, when joining in marriage with Judith.
John happily retired from Waldorf in 2006 after 44 years of work. Judith passed away peacefully in 2010. After Judith's passing, John began many hobbies in his spare time that included, The American Legion as a Commander, joined the Honor Guard, was an active member of his church, Bethesda Lutheran, and always had something to work on in the garage.
John passed away peacefully on January 18th, 2023, in the St. Croix Falls Medical Center. He will be remembered most for his devotion to faith/family, strong will, fiery spirit, his fandom of the Packers, and, of course, his jokes.
