John Edward Coburn, 87, passed away at his home on Sunday, December 10, 2023.

John was born on August 19, 1936 in Blackduck, MN to John and Dorothy (Stigner) Coburn. He married Gloria Pettit on October 10, 1956 and together they had 5 children.

Over the years John worked as foreman for the Wingren Dairy Farm and then as a mechanic and parts man at J&L Ford in Blackduck and Bob Lowth Ford in Bemidji. He later became self-employed as a mechanic for 31 years, retiring in 2022. John had a wealth of knowledge of anything automotive, especially Fords!

John was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Blackduck and over the years volunteered as a church group host and baked many delicious desserts. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling around the United States to visit family.

John is survived by his wife, Gloria; 2 sons, Robert (Diana) Coburn and Dennis (Lisa) Coburn, both of Apache Junction, AZ; 3 daughters, Debra (Doug) Rockstead of Bemidji, MN, Tami Thostenson of Glenwood, MN, and Nancy (Bob) Seeger of San Tan Valley, AZ; 2 brothers, Jim Coburn of Squaw Lake, MN and Vernon Coburn of Minneapolis, MN; a sister, Linda (Dave) Slindee of Spring Lake, MN; 18 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy; and 4 sisters, Ruby Kugler, Mae Sunnell, Helen Lossing, and Alice Olson.

Funeral Services for John

December 14, 2023

Pastor Daphne Urban will be officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Blackduck following the service.
