About John

John David Hite, born on September 11, 1941, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed into eternal rest on the evening of Sunday, September 28, 2025, just after celebrating his 84th birthday. He was surrounded by peace, comfort, and love. His family takes solace in knowing he met “his Creator” just as he often spoke about—with faith, anticipation, and hope.

John’s story began in the Lake Nokomis neighborhood, where he learned the values of hard work, grit, and resilience—qualities that guided him throughout his life. As a young man, he explored a variety of jobs before embarking on a successful three-decade career as a GRI Realtor, retiring from Remax Associates Plus in Andover, MN. His street smarts, quick wit, and straightforward nature earned him deep respect and lifelong relationships in both his professional and personal life.

Before meeting his wife, LaVonne, John started a family with his first wife, Jeanne Hite. Together, they shared many formative experiences, shaping John’s enduring love for family and his capacity to support and care for others. Later, John discovered a kindred spirit in LaVonne while working at a medical transportation service. He saw her for who she was—not defined by her wheelchair, but by her strength, faith, and vibrant soul. Their love flourished, leading to 50 years of marriage. They built a home in Coon Rapids, MN, marked by devotion, laughter, and resilience, until her peaceful death just nine months ago.

John’s devotion to his family never waned. He cherished holidays and special occasions, welcoming loved ones with his famous glazed ham, prime rib dinners, and rich traditions. His pride in his Coon Rapids home was evident—his meticulously maintained lawn and well-cared-for property stood as a testament to the care he showed in all areas of his life.

A defining chapter in John’s life was his courageous decision to address the problem of alcohol. He attended AA and, through dedication and personal transformation, lived the rest of his life free from problem drinking. He shared this victory openly and inspired those around him with his honesty and willingness to grow.

Above all, John was a man of faith. He spoke often of his belief in Jesus Christ and looked forward joyously to reuniting with LaVonne and other loved ones in Heaven. He brought sparkle and fun to everyday moments—enjoying adventures, sharing music, and celebrating the thrill of living fully, one day at a time. John was truly one of a kind—authentic, genuine, and possessed a unique and vibrant spirit.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, LaVonne Hite; his cherished son, Dennis Hite; granddaughter, Alicia Hite; sister, Mary Lorraine (Bunny) Hefferan (and husband Richard Hefferan); and his loving parents, Howard and Florence Hite.

John is survived by a family who adored him and will carry forward his spirit. From his first marriage to Jeanne Hite, he is survived by his son Greg Hite (and wife Kristine), and their children Alexandria Meyer (and husband Mike), Andrew, Abriel, and Ashlee Hite; his daughter Corrine Simpson (and husband Ben), and their children Mercy and John Simpson; as well as grandchildren Benjamin, Lucas, and Amanda Hite, and great-grandchildren Vera, Lyra, Rosie, Josephine, River, and Hallie. From his marriage to LaVonne Hite, he is survived by his daughter April Lenzmeier (and husband Matt), and their children Eden and Sophie; and his son Justin Hite (and wife Heidi), and their children Carsyn and Cameryn. John is also survived by his sisters Joanne Brecount (and husband Mike), with nephews Mike, Tim, and Chris Brecount and niece Rita Eickstadt (and husband Shannon); and Jean Allum, with nephew Eddie (Carla) Allum and nieces Lisa Allum and Anne Ortiz. He is lovingly remembered by his close cousin-in-law Sharon Pederson (and husband Dick), as well as by countless friends, neighbors, and business associates whose lives were enriched by his presence.

John’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to St. Croix Hospice and Cherrywood Advanced Living in Andover for their compassionate care.
