Loving Wife, Mother and Nana

Joanne Johnson joined her beloved husband Russ in God's Kingdom on April 20, 2023 following a brief battle with cancer. Joanne was born on August 13, 1936 to Vern and Frances Nygren. She graduated from Washburn High School in 1954. She and Russ were married on June 7, 1958. They raised three children in Bloomington,MN before retiring to the shores of Lake Mille Lacs in 1986, where they lived until 2014 before moving to Rosemount, MN. They enjoyed many winters in South Padre Island, Texas. In 2018 Russ and Joanne moved to Summerhouse in Bloomington, where Joanne was active in various social activities including crafts. After Russ' death in December of 2022, Joanne moved to Presbyterian Homes of Bloomington where she died from cancer. Joanne will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandma and sister. She loved golf, bowling and anything involving her kids and grandkids. Family was everything to Russ & Joanne. Joanne was preceded in death by husband Russ, her parents, and her brother Jerry Nygren. She is survived by her children, Julie King of Eagan, MN, Jill (Kent) Therkelsen of Fort Myers, FL, Jeff (Annie) Johnson of Aitkin, MN, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Jim Nygren, Sisters Sue (Dick) Orlans, Judy (Earl) Teportan, Brother-in-law Robert (Sharon) Johnson and many nieces and nephews. A private ceremony and burial is planned for Russ and Joanne. Special thanks to the staff at Presbyterian Homes Bloomington and the Methodist Hospital/Park Nicollet Hospice team.
