Obituary for Joan H. Twomey

Best ever wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend

Joan H. Twomey, 97, was born on September 8, 1927 in Aurora, Illinois, the daughter of Wilbur and Lillian Ulrich. She graduated from Madonna High School and attended the College of St. Benedict's in St. Joseph, Minnesota, where she majored in chemistry. This is where she met her future husband Jerry, her dance partner for life. Jerry was the brother of her best friends Elaine and Kathleen, and had just come back from WWII service. They met at a dance mixer and that began a love story that lasted 67 years. She raised eight children while supporting her husband in his independently owned and operated truck stop in Little Falls, Minnesota.

She was a devout Catholic, believing in guardian angels and the power of prayer, and her faith carried her through life's experiences. Throughout her life, she was active in St Mary's parish, belonging to Christian Mothers and choir and also taught Sunday school.

Joan loved reading, bridge, cooking, camping and road trips. Later in life, she enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings and Twins and RVing at auto races with her oldest daughter and son-in-law. She was out-going and her outlook on life was always positive. She was a good friend to many.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, children Nancy and Michael and brother, Gerald. She is survived by her children Mary Kay (Dennis), Kevin (Sharon), Eileen (Sam), Mark, Helen and Paul (Diane)...grandchildren Lisa, Brian, Laura, Josh, Angi, Kelsey, Dylan, Daniel and Sarah ... great grandchildren Noah, Avari, Lyric, Zaida, Zuri, Fayth, Isaiah, Maxwell, Bodhi, Brooks, Romy, Tully, Jesslyn and Devan ... and many nieces and nephews.

She's now dancing in heaven with her favorite partner.

A celebration of Joan's wonderful life and the impact she had on others will take place on Sunday, 6/22/25, from 1:30 - 4:30pm at the community room at Cerenity Senior Care - Marian location at 200 Earl Street, St. Paul, MN 55106.
