About Jeanette

Lake George resident Jeanette McAllister, 86, passed on to her heavenly home on Friday, June 24, 2022 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center. Her final days were spent with family, friends and the incredible staff at Sanford.

Jeanette was born on November 28, 1935 in Winnebago County, Iowa on the family farmstead of her parents, Harry and Jennie Renicker. That is where she grew up, attending country school until the 8th grade, at which time she started attending Buffalo Center High School, graduating in 1954.

Jeanette married Ron Garrett on June 21st, 1957 and made their home in Emmetsburg, Iowa. They were blessed with two children, Wayne and Evelyn. They moved to Chrystal Lake, Iowa in 1971, then to Lake George, Minnesota during the summer of 1981.

Ron and Jeanette built their home for their family from the ground up. She never missed a school activity for her children, whether it was chaperoning a trip or attending a game.

Jeanette was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake George. Helping with the Hunter’s Supper, making pies for the Blueberry Festival and sewing quilts with the Church Ladies filled her with joy.

She lost Ron in November of 1987. At that time, she began working at Itasca State Park as a Housekeeper at Douglas Lodge. She enjoyed her summers working with co-workers that became year-round friends.

In 1995, Jeanette met the love of her life, Walt McAllister. They were united in marriage on April 15th, 2000. They designed and built their house on Sheridan Lake where they enjoyed gardening, crafting and having coffee with neighbors and friends.

Their greatest joy however, was spending time with their grand children and great-grand children. They regularly volunteered at the Lake George Senior Center and Jeanette continued her activities at Trinity Lutheran.

Jeanette was an avid gardener, canning and preserving fruits and vegetables for her family and friends.

Jeanette is survived by her children Wayne Garrett (JouLar Knoblich) of Fargo, ND, Evelyn Halvorson (Michael Anderson) of Bemidji, MN, her God-Daughter, Crystal Rundle of Mound, MN, as well as Walt’s children, Jody McAllister of Rochester, MN, Craig McAllister of Altamont, TN, and Stacy McAllister of Albert Lea, MN, 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grand children and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Walt, her first husband, Ron; her parents, Harry and Jennie Renicker, her sisters, Marie Swisher, Irene Nelson, Betty Ottman, and Alice Jandl and her brother Martin Renicker.
