About Jean

Jean LaVonne Stay, 88, of Bemidji, MN passed on to eternal life on Monday, February 10, 2025 at Neilson Place in Bemidji, MN.

She was born July 19, 1936 in Bemidji, the daughter of Grace and Edward Johnson. She married Roman Arthur Stay January 23, 1955. Together they lived in Bemidji their whole lives.

They raised 5 children, Cheryl (Mike) Strassburg, Brad (Maria) Stay, Gary (Diane) Stay, Lori (Dave) Stay, and Teresa (Tom) Faecke.

Mom was always known as Grandma Jean to many thru the years. Mom welcomed all to her home on Mill St. NE to all the festivities from having weddings to celebrating 4th of July’s, Christmas’ to family reunions. The gatherings were many and memories are endless. Jean was involved for many years with Christian Women’s and she enjoyed her red hat group for many years as well.

Jean is survived by her 5 children, 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren, step sisters, Alice (Jim) Riley and Judy Green, step brothers, Fred, Randy (Debbie) and Jim (Jody) Stowbridge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roman, brother, Art Johnson, step-siblings, Annie (Don) Riley, Lois Ward, Linda (Butch) Wickel, Ken (Virginia), Hoosier (Judy), Larry (Brenda), Bill, and Johnny Strowbridge.
