life story

Jason T. Kampa, age 51, of Saint Paul, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026.

Jason was welcomed into the Kampa family 50 years ago, adopted by Marie and Gene after Marie fell in love with him while working as a nurse at Welcome Homes, a care facility for children with severe developmental needs. Though he was failing to thrive at the time, the family’s love and care gave him a beautiful, full life. The youngest of six siblings, Jason will always be the family’s “little brother”.

Jason faced Myasthenia Gravis, a rare neurological disease, with incredible courage and determination. He fought hard through every setback and rallied more than once, but in the end, the illness took its toll.

He attended St. Mark’s Grade School, Cretin High School, earned a master’s degree in psychology, and later received his nursing degree from St. Catherine University.

Despite a lifetime of physical challenges, Jason never complained—his quiet strength and perseverance inspired everyone who knew him.

Jason loved time with family, the Gun Lake family cabin, water skiing, and listening to music of all kinds. Jason loved good food and restaurants. When he could no longer eat, he still enjoyed hearing about others’ dining adventures. He also treasured long phone conversations and time spent with friends.

He is survived by his siblings Tom, Laurie (Mark) Steigauf, Steve (Sherry), Jim (Mary), and John (Bev); many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and dear friends Brian and Karen.

Jason’s life was a testament to faith in God, resilience, and love. He will be deeply missed.
