James Robert Perkins

life story

A selfless man, husband, father, and friend.

Mr. James Robert Perkins, 63, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed June 21, 2014, at his home.

He was born October 19, 1950, in Morgantown, West Virginia, the son of the late Florence Wiley Perkins and Arthur Perkins and was the husband of Darlene Turner Perkins.

Mr. Perkins was a graduate of Virginia Tech and was an avid Virginia Tech football fan.

Mr. Perkins is survived by his wife, Darlene Turner Perkins; three sons, James Robert "Bobby" Perkins Jr, and his wife, Rachel, of Greenville, Samuel Perkins and his wife, Tracy, of Greenville and Gregory "Greg" Perkins of Charleston; a daughter, Anna-Marie Perkins of Charlotte, NC; three brothers, Craig Perkins and his husband, Walter, of Wilmington, NC, Kenneth Perkins, and his wife, Susan, of Roanoke, Virginia, and Howard "Howie" Perkins and his wife, Lynn, of Austin, Texas; and six grandchildren, Sabrina, Brandon, Evelyn, Connor, Faith, and Sarah Perkins.

Mr. Perkins was preceded in death by a daughter, Louise Mary Perkins.

A service of remembrance for James is 11 a.m Saturday, June 28, at the chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home.

The family of James Perkins will receive friends immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials to be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
