life story

James (Jim) Paul Lundgren, passed away on Sunday October 5, at 84 years of age, at home surrounded by his family after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.

Jim was born on December 26th, 1940, in Princeton MN to Bernard Lundgren and Mildred (Lueck) Lundgren. He graduated from Princeton High School in 1958.

On November 21, 1964, he married Helen (Clark) Lundgren and together they raised three children on Jim’s family owned farm. After 84 years at the same place, he was well known and deeply loved by his neighbors.

Jim was a third generation dairy farmer and took over the family farm after working alongside his father throughout his childhood and adolescence. Jim also worked stints at Holiday (Erickson) Gas Station, drove school buses for Princeton School District, drove for LJ’s Handivan, and hauled semi loads of grain. Jim was a believer in self sufficiency which drove his passion to learn and master multiple skillsets, he was known for his welding, electrical work, small engine work and sewing.

You would never find Jim sitting still, when he wasn’t busy tending the farm he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and playing cribbage. Jim’s family and friends were dear to him. He spoke to his sister on the phone every morning at the same time. He lit up when his grandkids would visit. He played cribbage with his friends every week, and enjoyed his fair share of fish fries with his fellow fisherman.

Left to celebrate his life is his wife Helen, their children: Tami Donner, Paul (Lynn) Lundgren and Amy (Jason) Orton; grandchildren: Alan (Brooke) Donner, Laurie (Matt) Carlson, Olivia (John) Marchwick, Madelynn, and Mason; and great granddaughter Tori. He is also remembered fondly by his sister Jean (Richard) Stearns and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest donations to St. Croix Hospice, who was incredibly helpful and sympathetic during Jim’s final days. There will be a private service on October 18th, 2025 for immediate family at the farm followed by an open reception at Moonshine in Princeton from 2:00-4:00 PM.
