life story
James "Jim" Homan (78) died in Minneapolis on January 21, 2026.
Jim was born on July 26, 1947, in Slayton, Minnesota, to Marcel and Joyce Homan. He was the oldest of five children. He attended Slayton High School and then studied architectural drafting at Jackson Vocational School, where he met Donna. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1967 to 1971, stationed in Taiwan and at Minuteman Missile Sites in South Dakota. He reconnected with Donna after he was honorably discharged from the Air Force. They married at First Presbyterian Church in Fulda, Minnesota, in 1972.
Jim and Donna started their married life in New Ulm, eventually moving to Waseca, Mankato, and then Burnsville. Throughout his life, he worked for SuperValu as a produce manager. While in Waseca, his daughters Melanie and Jamie were born. They were the pride of his life, and he often shared stories about their accomplishments with others.
Jim was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease at the age of 56, and he retired at 60 due to the progression of the disease. In the face of his diagnosis, he chose to spend his time volunteering with the School Sisters of Notre Dame, the local food shelf in Mankato, and immigrant ministries. He had a fun part-time job at Terrace View Golf Course, taking every opportunity he could to play a round. In his free time, he enjoyed all sports, whether they were high school, college, or professional teams (Skol Vikings!).
Jim was excited to welcome Todd and Brennon to the family, to even out the numbers, and his grandchildren, Rylee, Cullen, Dylan, and Elin, brought him immeasurable joy. Jim was known for his wonderful sense of humor, his strength in facing life's challenges, and his love of simple joys in daily life.
