James Kevin Mattila, 61, of Blackduck, MN passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022 after long battle with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).

James was born on April 18, 1960 in Virginia, MN, the son of Raymond and Shirley (Tamte) Mattila. He attended school in Fairmont, MN and Bemidji, MN, graduating from Bemidji High School in 1979.

James worked at Ainsworth Corp. in Bemidji, Anderson Fabrics in Blackduck and for the city of Northome, MN. He married Patricia Ann (Tillotson) Welch on August 16, 2008 in Blackduck, MN. He enjoyed duck hunting, golf, fishing, deer hunting and bowling.

James is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Mattila of Blackduck, MN; daughter, Miranda (Tom) Schufman of St. Bonifacius, MN; son, Evan (Taylor) Mattila of Twin Valley, MN; stepdaughter, Jennifer (Tracy) Welch of Bemidji, MN; stepson, Jeff (Lindsey) Welch of Northome, MN; 6 grandchildren, Eleanor, Annabel, Payton, Kase, Simon and Rylee; 5 siblings, Sandy Goettig, Bill (Bernadette) Mattila, Robert Mattila, Jon (Lisa) Mattila and Paul Mattila; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond & Shirley Mattila; maternal grandparents, Roy & Ruby Tamte; and paternal grandparents, Heino & Amelia Mattila.

Pastor Dwight Warden will be officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Blackduck, MN.
