About Jim
James "Jim" (Ace) W. Lewerenz, 77, of W. St. Paul, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at The Estates of Roseville in Roseville, MN.
He was born September 21, 1946, in St. Paul, son of Alfred and Geneva (Hedlund) Lewerenz.
Jim was an exceptional academic in school in his younger years. He read the dictionary several times to prepare for the spelling bee, was on the debate team and later earned a Bachelors in Mathematics from the University of Minnesota. His passion to learn spread into adulthood into many areas as seen in his varied and vast book collection.
He volunteered for the army after college during Vietnam and was stationed in Germany. He enjoyed tennis, golf, bowling, collecting sports cards and following the local sports teams during his working years at the U.S. Postal Data Center where he was known for his work ethic, problem solving and dry humor. One of his highlights was winning the season tournament for his golf work league.
In his lifetime, he started many projects around the house, never quite finishing many of them, but was most proud of his four-season porch addition where he spent much of his retirement days journaling the day's events. Playing chess and working through Sudoku puzzles were also personal favorites of his, at times sparring with opponents online, as well as tinkering with the latest operating patches for his personal computers.
Jim was a stoic man, highly intellectual and cheerful most times. He was proud of his military service and was liked by most. He enjoyed spending time with his many grandchildren going on golf outings and other activities. Jim also loved his muscle cars, from the Ford Mustangs after his military service to the Dodge Challenger in retirement, and enjoyed driving around with his grandkids.
Survivors include his children David (Kris) Lewerenz, Eric (Heidi) Lewerenz, and Greg (Tanya) Lewerenz; stepson Jamie; grandchildren Abigail, Zachariah, Josephine, Daniel, Samuel, Henry, Isabelle, Barbara, Jeremiah, Miriam, Hazel, Elliana, and Evangeline; sisters Laurie and Sandy; brother Jack, as well as nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Barb, his parents, and his granddaughter Emily.
Jim will be laid to rest next to his parents at Oakland Cemetery in St. Paul.
