About Jim

Jim was born in Redwood Falls, MN to Alphonse and Margaret (Munsinger) Hollenhorst. He was raised in Sauk Centre and Morris, MN. He graduated from Morris High School in 1965. He then attended the University of Minnesota Morris and graduated with a degree in political science in 1969.

Jim was drafted into the US Army and spent a year learning Vietnamese at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey CA. Shortly before being deployed, he married Arleen (Koosmann). Jim spent one year serving in Vietnam. For the rest of his life, Jim was a passionate advocate for all who served. This included developing a program for Vietnam Veterans to share their experiences with high school students, and volunteering for Disabled American Veterans (DAV).

Jim and Arleen raised three children; Pete, Andy, and Maggie in Menomonee Falls, WI. He served on the Menomonee Falls School Board for 11 years. He worked for a manufacturing firm, Server Products of Richfield WI, for 27 years, retiring as a Vice-President of Human Resources. Jim and Arleen moved to Arden Hills, MN in retirement. He was known as Potney to his grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Marge Hollenhorst. He is survived by his sister, Jeanne Hollenhorst, his wife Arleen Hollenhorst, his children Peter Hollenhorst (Heather Hundley), Bloomington IN; Andrew Hollenhorst (Christine), Winchester MA; and Margaret Edwards, Minneapolis MN. He is also survived by his grandchildren Evan, Bryce, Nina, and Miles Hollenhorst and Genevieve Edwards, and numerous other relatives and friends.
