About Shed
Holmes, Shedrick (Shed) Larry Lee, was born on June 18, 1943 in Chicago Illinois. He grew up on the south side of Chicago until his teenage years, when he and his family moved to Minneapolis. Shed was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013, and spent his last years valiantly battling the disease. He passed away peacefully on Monday morning, November 8, 2021 at N.C. Little Hospice in Edina, Minnesota. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Patricia (Theisen) Holmes, and his siblings Eric, Sharon, John Andrews, Beverly Randle (Levi), as well as a host of nieces and nephews. His parents Shedrick Larry Holmes Jr. and Anna Louise Williams preceded him in death.
Shed was a friend to many, and those who knew him appreciated his droll sense of humor, loving kindness, faithful loyalty, and selfless generosity. Shed only needed to give you an eye-roll to express his feelings, and those eyes expressed lots of love and connection. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and spent his tour there. After the service, he worked in Building Maintenance at The Jewish Community Center in St. Louis Park and then United Properties in Minneapolis, retiring in 2009.
Shed's passions were his wife Pat, deer hunting with his buddy Gary Eyler and Gary's sons, and motorcycling with friends, not necessarily in that order (smile). He was a member of GWRRA (Gold Wing Road Riders Association) Chapter Q for many years, and enjoyed being “the tail” but never the lead. His wealth of knowledge included old movies and songs, so he was the go-to man for questions!
Shed was dearly loved and will be missed greatly by all who knew him. His Celebration of Life service will be held at Wayzata Community Church, 125 Wayzata Boulevard East, Wayzata, MN 55391 on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 11:00am. Please consider memorial donations to N.C. Little Hospice, 7019 Lynmar Ln, Edina, MN 55435. His time there was short, but he was treated with love and respect. Many heartfelt thanks to all of his caregivers over the years, and special thanks to Dr. Cathleen Chen, his Oncologist.
