Gunter Musegaard Brakner, 84, of Bemidji, MN died Monday, January 31, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.

Gunter was born December 10, 1937 in Tollose, Denmark, the son of Peter and Agnete Brakner. He grew up in Denmark; graduating from Ringsted High School, and Ringsted Tech School. He served in The Royal Danish Navy. He worked in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden as a beautician. In 1962, he married Jane Edvardsen in Nakskov, Denmark and in 1963 immigrated to the United States.

They settled in New Jersey and he worked as a beautician and beauty store owner. In 1977 he and his family moved to Bemidji where he was involved in the jewelry business, Scandinavian gifts, and tux rental.

He was a founding member of the Bemidji Scandinavian folk dancing group. He was a PROUD DANE! He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and the Food Shelf. He was a very handy man and he could do anything. He enjoyed woodworking, watching soccer, and traveling. In retirement, he was a snowbird, traveling to the South West in the winter and loved to return home to Bemidji in the spring to enjoy coffee and fellowship with his neighbors and friends.

Gunter is survived by his wife Jane Brakner, daughter Brigitte Denson, son Glen Brakner, grandchildren Essence, Kaja, Brittanee, Tyler, Erik, Isaac, and great grandchildren Tiana, Aiden, Robert, Brooklyn, and Morgan.

Gunter was preceded in death by his parents and his son Peter Gunter.

The Rev. Susan Tjornehoj will be officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the spring at the Turtle River Township South Arm Cemetery in rural Bemidji, MN.
