About Gloria

Gloria Mae (Ferrie) Merschman, 94, of Bagley, Minnesota, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 20th 2022 at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine.

She was born February 22, 1928, in rural Bagley to Gardie and Anna (Vigoren) Ferrie. She attended country school, graduating from Bagley High School in 1946. On October 4, 1947, Gloria was united in marriage to Eugene Merschman at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Bagley. Together they raised three sons: Dale, Dennis and Jim. Memories of camping, fishing and family gatherings carried on as each of the sons enjoyed those same activities with their families.

Gloria helped her parents on the farm until moving to Bagley to finish High School. She worked various jobs including the Clearwater County Treasurer’s Office, the Bagley Bakery and retired from the Bagley Public Schools as a cook.

In retirement, Gene and Gloria loved to fish and camp in Minnesota, as well as Canada. They looked forward to their Sunday night bowling league. Guests were always welcome at Gene and Gloria’s, whether for coffee or a meal. She was a fabulous hostess and cook for family and friends.

They moved to Cornerstone Senior Living in 2011 when Gene’s health was deteriorating. She continued living there after his death in 2013. She loved to play cards and games. She loved to have her ladies come to her apartment every week and play cards! She was a private person but felt strongly about supporting the Legion Auxiliary and was a lifetime member of that organization.

Gloria is survived by her sons Dale and Bernice (Baudette, Mn), Dennis and Jacki (Bagley, Mn) and daughter-in-law Jane (Bagley, Mn). 7 Grandchildren: Becky (Steve) Westereng, Billy (Denise) Merschman, Tony (Beth) Merschman, Peter (Amy) Merschman, Janelle Speerschneider, Janice (Tom) Hawkins, and Jared (Kimberly) Merschman. 16 Great-grandchildren: Drew, Madeline (Dakota), Camille, Abigail, Jarret, Gavin, Brett, Torrey, Sloan, Grant, Charlotte, Taya, Emma, Paityn, Conner and Owen. 2 Step-great-grandchildren: Nick and Emily Frazer.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband Gene, son Jim, brother Donald, sister Marlys, granddaughter Christina Merschman, and grandson-in-law Mark Speerschneider.

Funeral Services for Gloria

September 26, 2022

Location: Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Bagley (Ebro Corner). Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral. Christian burial will take place at 3:30 p.m. at the Bagley City Cemetery.
