About Glenyce

Glenyce May Coffin, 86, was born March 24, 1937, and passed to glory on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Tamarack Court in Bemidji, MN.

She was the seventh of twelve children born to Miles and Millicent Evans. She was raised and attended grade school in Hines, MN, graduated from Blackduck High School in 1955, then went to Bemidji State Teacher’s College for her bachelor’s degree in elementary education. There she met Russel Coffin of Puposky, and married him on August 16, 1958.

They had four children while their teaching careers took them to various parts of the state and even to Chicago, IL. Along the way, Glenyce taught in Bagley, Twin Valley, Akeley, and finally Ponemah, where she spent 22 memorable years.

In retirement she was very active at Tenstrike Community Church, continued her longstanding involvement with the Christian organization Aglow, and was known to lend a helping hand to many fellow souls.

She loved to stay busy, with gardening, puzzle fixing, and babysitting grandchildren among her favorite activities. Russel and Glenyce lived in the house they built on the Coffin homestead for 57 years. Even till the end, her famous red hair was still mostly red.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Eleanor Christiansen and Jean Gott; brothers Virgil Evans, Neal Evans, Wendell Evans, and Ron Evans; brothers-in-law Albert Christiansen, Vern Kopperud, Dave Gott, Dave Cook, Dix Coffin, Oliver Coffin, Martin Dietrich, Rich Tye, and Wayne Walters; sisters-in-law Donna Evans, Arvilla Coffin, Audrey Tye, Helen Dietrich, and Bernice Walters; her son Charles “Chip” Coffin, and son-in-law Steve Pinkerton.
