About Glenn
Glenn was born in Sault Ste. Marie, MI, graduated from Sault Ste. Marie High School in 1945, served in the Navy and received his Bachelor’s degree from Greenville University (Illinois), where he met his wife, Vi, along with many life-long friends. He went on to earn his Master’s degree from Michigan State University and his Doctorate in Education from Wayne State University. He was the first male elementary teacher hired by the Lansing School District. He became a high school coach, high school principal in Romulus, Livonia and Alpena and, finally, Director of Administrative Services for Alpena Public Schools. While working for Alpena Public Schools, he served as a committee member to establish high school hockey in Michigan, was elected President of the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals and served as president of the Alpena Rotary Club. He retired from the Michigan Public School System in 1988. In his retirement, he served as interim principal in the Mancelona School District and both interim principal and interim superintendent for the Bellaire School District. Even in his passing, Glenn has chosen to help students by participating in the University of Minnesota Medical School’s Anatomy Bequest Program which supports education for future health professionals and advancements in medical care through research.
Glenn had a strong Christian faith and used his Gift of Administration to serve the Lord as an elder in the Presbyterian Church and the Mackinac District of the Presbytery. He was actively involved in Ward Evangelical Presbyterian Church (Livonia), First Presbyterian Church (Alpena), Church in the Hills (Bellaire), and Hope Presbyterian Church (Richfield, MN). Particularly in his final years, he found great joy in studying God’s Word and sharing his faith with others. He felt inspired to renew his baptism at the age of 93.
Glenn is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Violet, and his daughter-in-law, Becky (Webb) McAdam. He is survived by siblings Don (residing in Westland, MI) and Phyllis (C. Richard) Terman (residing in Edmonds, WA), as well as sons Richard (Patricia) McAdam of Decatur, GA., Lynn (Karen) McAdam of Sun City, AZ., Gary (Pamela) McAdam of Carol Stream, IL and by daughter Janette (Tom) Schull of Eagan, MN. He was exceedingly proud of his 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
