About Glenda
Glenda J. Shaffer was a cherished wife, mother, and grandmother who went to meet her Savior on November 1, 2023. She passed away peacefully at the age of 73 in Minneapolis, MN, surrounded by her family.
Glenda was born to Gordan and Geniveve Middag on January 31, 1950, in Duluth, MN. She was the youngest of five children and one of three girls. Three years after Glenda was born the family moved to St. Louis Park, MN. Glenda was active in a variety of activities at school and church. Her church was important to her even as a very young child. She graduated from Minnehaha Academy in 1968. After high school, Glenda attended cosmetology /beauty school for one year.
Glenda met Steve at an early age while attending Elliot View Elementary School. They began dating right after a car accident in which Glenda swerved to miss a little girl on her bike. Her car went over the embankment, rolling end over end. It was by far the worst day of her life, but Steve states it was the best of his. He walked into Glenda’s hospital room and fell in love with her right then. Steve and Glenda dated for about a year before Steve was drafted into the US Army. He was stationed in Fort Polk, LA, and quickly realized how much he missed her when they were apart. Steve reached out to her while Glenda was giving away Bibles in Columbia, South America. The first time he asked her to marry him, she declined. Steve tried again on the following payday, and she accepted.
Glenda and Steve were married on November 29, 1969 in St. Louis Park, while Steve was still in the service. They lived near Ft. Polk for about six months before being transferred to Germany where she worked in the PX. After being released from active duty in 1971, they returned to the States. Glenda went back to cosmetology while Steve completed his computer training. They owned 13 houses and moved 27 times over the next 50 years. Glenda made each of her houses a home.
In 2012, they moved back to Minnesota to retire. Glenda valued spending time with her two children and grandchildren. Working on her plants and gardens brought her additional joy.
She truly lived a Christ-like life and will be deeply missed. She has left a legacy of love, understanding, compassion and unconditional love for all.
Memorials preferred to the family for future designation.
