A good Father and a friend to all who met him!

Gilbert L. Defiel, age 87, of Sandstone, MN passed away on January 31, 2025. He was preceded in death by his wife Eileen; parents Walter and Henrietta Defiel, siblings Leslie, James and Judy.

During his life Gilbert has lived in Minnesota, North Dakota and Texas. During his retirement he spent many years in his beloved Brownsville, Texas. Gilbert disliked the cold and snow of Minnesota so he transitioned to year-round residency in south Texas. He enjoyed the warm weather of South Padre Island and loved fishing on the coast. Dirty Al's was his "go to" restaurant on the island!

A special thanks to all of his friends and staff at Palm Resaca, especially to Mike who befriended Gilbert and helped him in so many ways. The family thanks you.

Gilbert is survived by his children, Diane (Dave) Nelson, Kenneth (Melissa), Gilbert, and John (Cathy). His 10 grandchildren were Dan, Angela, Mike, Jill, Justin, Tim, John, Brigitte, Tyler and Hallie. Gilbert was also survived by siblings Dennis (Judy), Jenine (Bob) Townley and Jake (Michelle). Gilbert also has many nephews, nieces, and friends throughout Minnesota and Texas.

Also, a special thanks to the staff at the Golden Horizons assisted living facility in Sandstone, MN. Their professionalism, friendship and care was appreciated by Gilbert and his family.

A private service will be held this Summer in northern Minnesota.
