About Gerry

Gerry Hoemke, Age 86, of St. Paul, MN. Gerry died peacefully on September 30, with her husband Pat and family by her side.

Gerry grew up in St. Paul’s West End, graduated from Monroe High School in 1958, and trained to be an X-ray technician at Miller Hospital in St. Paul. She later worked at Physician’s Clinic of St. Paul and was proud of her many years as a mammography technician at the University of Minnesota Hospital Outpatient Clinic.

Gerry met Pat at a corner bar near Miller Hospital while she was completing her X-ray tech training. Love immediately ensued. Pat and Gerry married on May 11, 1963, at St. Francis de Sales Church, Gerry’s parish and grade school. As a wife and mother, she shared her selfless love, always putting family first and being there to offer support. She was warm, compassionate, generous, and above all, kind.

Gerry loved holidays and their accompanying decorations, but her favorite was always Halloween. She collected Halloween decorations all year and always looked forward to her annual Halloween party with family and friends. Handing out candy to trick-or-treaters gave Gerry tremendous joy.

In retirement, a favorite pastime of Gerry’s was riding through Southern Minnesota and Wisconsin, enjoying the scenery and searching for unique pieces of pottery. She loved the many antique shops, boutiques, restaurants, and small businesses that she could visit throughout the Mississippi River Valley.

Gerry was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Julia Mayer; mother-in-law Virginia Reiter and father-in-law Waldie Hoemke; sister Rosemarie Mayer; brother-in-law Michael Hoemke; sister-in-law Trixie Gluff; and niece Karla Haugen.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Patrick Hoemke; her children Catherine Hoemke, Greg Hoemke (Jane), Paul Hoemke, and Brian Hoemke (Kim Flanagan); sister Judy Haugen (Clifford); sister-in-law Sandra Minehan; grandchildren Joshua Hoemke, Rachel Spiess (Arne), and Marshall Hoemke; great-grandson Teddy Spiess; and nieces and nephews, Khris Haugen, Darrin Minehan, Leslie Grande (Joe), Troy Gluff, Steve Hoemke, Dan Hoemke, Lisa Hoemke, and Jeanine Hoemke Frank.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, October 16, at St. Francis de Sales Church, 650 Palace Ave, St. Paul, MN 55102. Visitation begins at 9:30 am with Mass at 10:30 am.
