Gerald "Jerry" Knutson
Gerald “Jerry” Alden Knutson passed away peacefully at his home in Linwood, MN with his wife of nearly 48 years, Sandra by his side on Sunday, March 13.
Jerry was born in Sand Creek, WI on March 30, 1935 to John and Clara (Gravermoen) Knutson. He was the youngest of nine children.
He worked hard all his life at various professions to support his family.
For many years, he played the accordion in a band that played old time music in bars and dance halls throughout both Minnesota and Wisconsin. He was a very talented musician with no formal training, who played the accordion by ear.
Jerry and his wife Sandy loved to dance. Often times they would be asked if they had taken dance lessons together. Jerry’s favorite dance was the jitterbug.
Jerry was an avid gardener. He maintained his lawn and flower gardens like a professional landscaper until he no longer had the strength to do so.
He will be remembered for his dedication to his wife, Sandy and his family as well as his sense of humor which he maintained all the way to the end of his life.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents John and Clara (Gravermoen) Knutson, his brothers Kenny, Ervin, and Richard, his sisters Josie, Hazel, and Irene, his son Randy and his granddaughter Angela Candy.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Kay (Wilmot) Knutson, his children Cheryl Erickson, Gerald “Gary” Knutson, Jr., Sandra “Sam” Candy, Michelle Stemig, Dolores “Dotty” Koppi, Dawn Pearson, Joy Thompson, and Darcy Gedney and their spouses. He is also survived by his brother Gerhardt “Jack” Knutson and his sister Norma Johnson along with 15 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He is loved and will be greatly missed every day. Jerry is forever in our hearts and memories.
Per his wishes, Jerry was cremated on March 16, 2022. There will be no service. Expressions of sympathy can be sent directly to the family.
