Georgia (Bing) Graham
August 10, 1942 – July 27, 2021
life story
Georgia (Bing) Graham, 78 of Augusta, GA passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2021 surrounded by her family of whom she dearly loved.
Georgia was born on August 10, 1942 as the seventh of twelve children to James and Rosa Bing. She loved being around her family and friends always embracing everyone she met with her beautiful smile. If it wasn’t her smile that endeared ones to her, it was her humor and sharp wit that would put smiles on the faces of others.
On February 4, 1967 she married James B. Graham, Jr a man she loved beyond words and remained in sacred union for 54 years. In addition, she had two children, Jacqueline and James III, of whom she gave her life, spirit, and love. As a result, each one of them, including her husband, followed her into the ministry that was on her mind and heart as well as the first thing she’d speak of when she awakened.
In 1972, Georgia dedicated her life as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. It was her dedication to her Heavenly Father in word and deed that went on to define her. She was a compassionate Bible teacher. Often, she went as far as to teach many of her students to read. From there, they were able to learn the Word of God in a way that they no longer depended on others telling them, but they were able to fortify their own hearts by reading God’s Word for themselves. In areas throughout the state of GA, especially Hephzibah and Burke County, she was known as “The Bible Lady” to those who had the privilege to meet her at their door and obtain a spiritual study with her.
Georgia was able to maintain a full time share in the ministry for over twenty years. She aided many young ones in the congregation to become full time ministers as she encouraged them to pioneer with her during their summer vacations. As they grew up, they went on to become pioneers, territory overseers, and service overseers. Some she encouraged became Ministerial Servants and Elders.
Georgia, affectionately known as “Georgee” to her family, adored her grandchildren, Josiah, Dustin, and Justin as they brought her memories that lasted her lifetime. She helped raise them up to know their Maker and appreciate the ministry as well. In addition, she loved to grow her garden and surround herself with flowers. “Give me my flowers while I’m living,” she would say. Watercolor greeting card creations, fish aquarium arrangements, and her pet dogs also became her hobbies and joys. Also she loved traveling and went to seven lands spreading the Word of God.
As the effects of age and declining health limited her, Georgia had a zeal and determination to strengthen, encourage, and teach others about the “love that surpasses all knowledge.” She continued to do so by every avenue of the ministry afforded her.
She is survived by her loving husband, James B. Graham, Jr. Two children, Jacqueline (Sydney) Barnes, James (Lavonda) Graham, Three grandchildren Josiah (Jamie) Graham, Dustin Graham, and Justin Graham. She has a niece who followed her into the ministry, Gloria Walker, and her children Tracie (Jermaine) Cook and Annette Walker. Her spiritually adopted son, Kevin (Kimberly) Bloodsworth. In addition, her brothers Sylvester Bing, Joe Bing, Herman Bing, and sister Rebecca Grant.
Georgia’s hope in Jehovah’s promises was so sure, that she spoke of the paradise until she fell asleep in death. She looked forward to the day that Jehovah, through Christ Jesus, would call those she loved back to life in the resurrection. Now we take comfort and long for the day she will hear His voice call her by name to rise to life on a righteous paradise earth. What a wonderful day that will be! Until then, she is safe in Jehovah’s memory as a loyal and faithful servant of His and will “rest in peace.” (Romans 15:13)
